Alexandrea Robinson and Chandra Foster Win in Area V Competition
On May 4, 2006 the Soil and Water Conservation Districts Area V Awards Banquet was held at Tarleton State University in Stephenville to honor and recognize Soil and Water Conservation Districts and individuals who have dedicated their time, efforts and talents to making wise use of renewable natural resources. The Theme for this years Essay and Poster Contest was “Water Wise”. Representing the Fannin SWCD at the awards banquet were Joe and Sandra Ward, Joe is a Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board Member and Carroll and Chloe Jones, Carroll is the Chairman of the Fannin Soil and Water Conservation District.
Alexandrea (Alex) Robinson (right) won first place in the Area V Essay contest in the 13 and under category. Alex had previously won first place in the local Fannin SWCD essay contest in February of this year. She attends Honey Grove Middle School and enjoys dance, music, sports, family and friends. Alex received a plaque to commemorate her participation in the Area V contest. Alex’s essay will now go on to compete in the state essay contest.

Chandra (left) and her parents Bruce and Sydney Foster were able to attend the awards ceremony in Stephenville where Chandra received her plaque for placing second in the Area V Poster Contest., she placed second in the local poster contest earlier this year. Chandra attends Honey Grove Middle School and is interested in sports of all kinds.
The Fannin Soil and Water Conservation District is very proud of these two girls and of all the youth that work hard and participate in the conservation of our natural resources.
The Essay and Poster Contest is open to all youth in Fannin County and the Fannin SWCD encourages everyone to participate in the contests. Each of the top three winners in each category receives a monetary award and all participants receive a seedling tree to plant for posterity and a certificate of participation. These awards and all of the educational programs that the Fannin SWCD sponsors each year has been made possible through a grant from the Martha, David and Bagby Lennox Foundation. Every fall, information concerning these contests is sent to all the schools of Fannin County and to the County Extension Office. If you would like further information concerning the essay or poster contest, contact the district office from 8am until 12 noon, Monday through Friday.
