Conservation Poster Winners Announced

Chairman Carroll Jones (left) and Principal Milton of the Honey Grove Middle School pose with the winners of the poster contest that the Fannin Soil and Water Conservation District hold each year for the youth of Fannin County. Nikki Leach won First Place, second place went to Chanda Foster and Stephanie Flowers was the third place winner, all three students attend Honey Grove Middle School. Each winner received a monetary award and each participant in the contest will receive a shumard oak seedling. The theme of the poster contest was “Water Wise”, we had 31 excellent entries.The winners of the local contest will advance to the Area level, with the winners of the area contest honored at the banquet held in May in Stephenville, TX.

 The Fannin Soil and Water Conservation District is proud to sponsor these contests, each year in October, entry forms are mailed to all the schools in Fannin County encouraging participation in the poster and essay contests. Home schooled children are also encouraged to enter the essay and poster contests.

 Nikki Leach is 12 years old and is in the sixth grade and her favorite hobbies are art and writing poems. Her favorite school subject is science. She stated that her art teacher, Mrs. Jean Yant has taught her a lot about art. She has two brothers and two sisters. She enjoys talking with her friends and being outdoors.

 Chanda Foster a sixth grader enjoys basketball, softball, volleyball and water skiing. Chanda is the daughter of Bruce and Sydney Foster and has two older brothers, Chad and Eric.

 Stephanie Flowers also a sixth grader loves to draw, act, listen to music and hang out with friends. She makes good grades and her favorite school subject is reading. She likes to play basketball and softball.
