Fish Pond Management

The 2006 annual pond management workshop was held at picturesque Lake Fannin on May 9, 2006 with 130 in attendance.  The popular program was put on by the Noble Foundation of Ardmore, Oklahoma. Shan Ingram and the staff of specialists from the foundation did an excellent job of providing a thorough coverage of pond management for fish and wildlife.

This event was sponsored by the Lennox Foundation and locally organized jointly by the Fannin Soil and Water Conservation District, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and The Fannin County Extension Service.

A sample of fish from the lake was obtained with the use of this boat
which is equipped with electrical shocking devices.  The harmless
shock renders the fish immobile long enough to be picked up
from the water surface with a dip net.

Mike Porter, biologist, uses a small black bass to make a point about the
condition of the lake and fish.  He also covered the topic of Florida bass
versus native bass for stocking.
