POND WORKSHOP MAY 16, 2008
Fannin Soil and Water Conservation District
This year we have an exciting fishpond seminar organized to assist you with your pond and lake management. This will be a unique experience since we will be doing a hook and line survey at the Bonham State Park. No fishing license is required at the State Park. You will be shown how to do this type of survey at your pond or lake. It will be fun and informative. We have asked the Noble Foundation to assist us this year and are looking forward to Mike Porter and Steven Smith as they present the fishing portion of the program. Cory Mason, Waterfowl Biologist with the Texas Parks & Wildlife will speak regarding waterfowl populations in the North Texas area and how fisheries management can affect your waterfowl habitat.
Bring a rod & reel & terminal tackle for each participant in your group to help survey the fishery. Recommended terminal tackle include snap swivels, small split shot weights, # 8 hooks & small floats for bluegill fishing & your favorite lures for bass fishing such as roadrunners, jigs, spinners, crank baits, top water plugs, jerk baits or plastic worms.
Dress appropriately for fishing & potentially wet, muddy, hot conditions. Consider treating your clothes with insect repellent.

Grass Seeders for Rent
The Fannin Soil and Water Conservation District has three grass planters for rent. These are the Brillion broadcast style planters. Brillion planters pack, drop the seed and then pack the soil again in one pass. There are two compartments inside the planter so that small seed and fluffy seed can be planted separately or at the same time. The district acquired these machines because of the difficulty in getting a good stand of grass on clayey soils and planting fluffy type seed. The district makes these planters available to landowners to promote good conservation, planting grass. The rental rates are$5.00 per acre with a minimum of $75.00 and a delivery fee of $40.00. If you live out of Fannin County there is a 15 mile limit, a delivery fee of $50.00 and a .50 per mile fee from the Fannin County line. The district has John Hartwell and Lanny Joe Burnett, technicians to deliver their drills and assist with GPS land measurements. For your grass seed needs call Mary Jane Godwin at 903-583-5612 or 903-583-9513 x3
