SEEDLING TREES DELIVERED TO CONTEST PARTICIPATES
Each year the Fannin Soil and Water Conservation District awards each participant in the essay and poster contests a tree seedling. The saw tooth oak tree was the tree of choice this year. It is a moderately fast growing oak tree with a wide spread. This tree is a great source for wildlife food because it begins to produce acorns in its sixth year. The leaves go from yellow to golden brown in the fall and open to a brilliant golden yellow in the spring.

Mrs. Tina Moore’s third-grade class at Finley Oates Elementary School was very excited about receiving the Saw tooth Oak trees.

Pictured above is Mrs. Brown’s sixth-grade
class at Honey Grove Middle School.
We had 21 essays and 24 posters entered from the students at Honey Grove
Middle School.

The students from Dodd City Elementary
entered 46 posters and 1 essay in the contests.
They had two posters place in the top three and the essay won first place in the
13 and younger category.
